Hi all! Welcome to our new WiiCade Mascot Project. As you are probably aware, many of the authors have been feeling limited by the new policy requiring that no Nintendo IP be uploaded to WiiCade. In response to this, several members of the community banded together and came up with the idea of creating our own IP.

The purpose of this project is to develop a unique set of mascots that would be free for use by game authors. Artists and game developers can use this forum to collaborate on new designs for mascots, and develop the personalities and backstories behind them. Artists are also welcome to submit their own sprites, animations, and drawings for the community to use.

I have asked Luigihann to head up and drive this project. He'll be helping bridge the gap between the artists and Wiicade's resources, as well as driving the general tone of the mascots.

Joining him is Finch, another of our resident artists and a world-famous Wii modder. He'll be rounding out the core of the team and helping produce a lot of the designs.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in this thread. We'll answer them as quickly as we can.

Hi Sandbox!

About time eh? We have set up a sandbox where users can upload their games to test out before they go onto the main site. This is especially useful for testing WiiMote Functionality (API). When you are uploading a game, there is now an option to "Upload to Sandbox" and once you've done that, you can see your sandbox game in your Profile. Once you have uploaded a game, any subsequent game you upload will automatically overwrite the previous version.

Now go test!

These two fab-u-lous developers have graced WiiCade with a couple of great games! First we have Tabuto, courtesy of NinjaKiwi. This is a game where you must try to collect a stream of little Tabuto? pieces that fall down, as the game progresses that pieces get smaller and fall down faster! Special thanks to him for converting to Flash 7 for us.

Second we have The Awful Show Software, who has given us not only one, but two great Simpson's themed games! First we have Yoink or No Yoink, which is a clone of deal or no deal, but with Simpson's characters! Great game for a quickie. Next we have a multiplayer game for up to 3 people called, Screw Your Neighbor. I'm not 100% sure on how to describe it so heres a snipet from the creator.

"After you select several options (including number of players (1 to 3), Wii skill level from 1 (easiest) to 4 (hardest), player characters (16 to choose from), and a question set (1 of 3 - each set contains a pool of 220 questions), you will go to the stage.

The first player will see a subject. It is up to them to choose which of the other players is least likely to answer a question based on that subject correctly. That player will be asked a question. After they provide their answer, the remaining player will have a chance to agree or disagree with that answer. The correct answer is then revealed.

Confused? Hope not. Here is how points are distributed. 3 points are awarded in each question. If the question answerer is correct, they get 2 points. If not, the initial player (the one who chose who has to answer the question) gets the 2 points. If the agreer/disagreer is correct, they get 1 point. If they are wrong, that point goes to the player who won the 2 points."

WiiCade Unlocks the Wii Remote for Flash Developers

Toronto, ON - February 27, 2007 – WiiCade is proud to announce the immediate availability of software that unlocks Nintendo Wii Remote functionality previously unavailable to online video games. This Application Programmer Interface (API) allows Flash developers to utilize the full range of buttons on the wireless remote device. Additionally, the API gives developers the potential to detect multiple, simultaneous button presses without interfering with the pointing capabilities of the remote; a feature not seen in previous APIs.

The intuitive nature of the API provides a wealth of other conveniences and advantages. One of the most innovative features of the API is that it automatically uses keyboard keys to emulate the functionality of the Nintendo Wii Remote on desktop computer systems. This allows games that utilize the remote to be played on a desktop computer without any additional code. Since the API offers the full range of buttons on the Nintendo Wii Remote, it also provides a clear method of circumventing the A button’s inherent rapid-detection limitations. A limitation that has been crippling to many online games.

By far, the best feature of the API is its easy-to-understand interface. Developers wishing to make their game Wii-ready only need to follow a few simple steps that are outlined on the WiiCade.com website. First, they download the ActionScript interface and include it in their working directory. Next, they paste a few common lines of code to initialize the “WiiMote” object. Lastly, the developer replaces their “Key.isDown” API calls with “WiiMote.isDown” calls, as outlined in the interface's documentation. This prepares the game to be exported and uploaded to WiiCade, where the rest of the work will be handled by server-side files.

Hackii Sack and Bullet Bill

Its finally here! One of WiiCade's most wanted games finally arrives courtesy of DXInteractive! I would like to personally thank him, very much, for not only giving us a Flash 7 version, but for also watermarking it with our site address. Thanks again =)

We've been Dugg and IGN-ed...

What a day! First Hot Air balloons into a HUGE Digg success, then as if that wasn't enough IGN decided to do an amazing post about us. Needless to say we were overwhelmed, and so was our little server, but she held her ground and performed really well!

In other news, 3 great new games came to us in the wake of server destruction!

Super Robostruction - By RobotHouseGames *for those of you who don't know, this is the man who made our new flashy menu!

Quadrato - By Peturo *adds another great game to his already challenging collection.

Valo - By Captain_404 *incredibly calm and soothing game, go play it now.

New JavaScript game using the D-Pad!

One of our very talented forum users, jbanes, has created little tech demo for us of a JavaScript "Simon" game. Its a fantastic concept to prove that the use of the D-pad through JavaScript can be done! The original thread can be found here, so all you tech junkies can find out how he did it, and the game can be found here, www.wiicade.com/touch/index.html. We will be trying to add this to our main site as soon as we devise a way to add JavaScript games! Have Fun!

Favorites Button!

Its come to our attention that some people still don't know that the little symbol in the Games Detail page is actually to add games to your "Favorite Games" in your Profile page, We figure you can get a nice collection of favorite games, and then when your on the Wii, just log into your account and check your profile page, and play your favorites instead of finding them 1 by 1. =)

Blog is back!

After a long hiatus, the WiiCade Blog is back! Where to start, so much has happened since our ancient last post. Well I guess we can start with the obvious launch of 2.0! I'll just list all the changes we've made

Search: You can now search for games and authors from any page on the site

Profiles: Add you favorite games to your profile via game detail page, and browse other users profiles by searching for them, or clicking on the author name in the game detail page.

Upload: Upload your own games to WiiCade!

Probation: All newly submitted games will go through a 1 week probation period. Any game with a rating > 2.5 at the end of the week gets accepted, all others are discarded.

New color coded game borders:

Red -> Exclusive
Gray -> Probation
Blue -> Regular

Icons beside every game to easy selection

Keyboard - Game requires keyboard functionality
18+ - This game is NSFW
Joystick - This game is exclusive to WiiCade

Stupid GoDaddy Problems

We have been experiencing A LOT of problems due to Godaddy not doing things properly. What happened was we canceled their service because it was unacceptable and went to another host, upon cancellation, they automatically redirected the DNS servers to a GoDaddy default parked page.

UPDATE: If you are still recieving a Parked page when you go to wiicade.com, do the following

1. Open Command prompt (cmd)
2. type: ipconfig /flushdns

This will clear the local DNS and let you see homepage once again.

Once again, we apologize for the downtime today.

WiiCade Flash Explained

At this point we can only assume the Opera browser will support Flash 7, with a very good possibility of Flah 8. So all you aspiring developers who are creating new content or porting some games over to be "Wii Compatible" know what you are dealing with. The safest bet would be to make it for Flash 7.

As for the uploading, right now we do require you to send it to us via email (games@wiicade.com). Soon in the future we will be implementing a system where you use 1 universal login and will be able to upload games hassel free. Untill the please bare with us!

What Wii Do

Some people have been asking what our site is, other than just a Flash game hosting site. Well in a nutshell we are trying to become the YouTube of gaming, so to speak. What sets us apart from the other Flash game hosts, is that we allow you to upload games at will (coming soon, for the time being just email your games to games@wiicade.com) and you can make use of the Wii's fabulous WiiMote. You will be able to do that through the Opera Browser that is set to be released on the Wii sometime soon. So what we have is a system that allows any game enthusiast to create a game and take advantage of the WiiMote, through a very well known develpment tool, Flash.

As for the people wondering where the exclusive games are, we have decided to push those back to when the Opera Browser actually comes out. We should have 1 title for sure by then, with the possibility of another.

16 000 Games played in under 24 hours

You read the title correctly, some 16 000 games have been played since WiiCades inception. I'm not sure how good that is, but lord knows Aaron John and I are jumping around like little girls after getting a new Barbie. Keep the good times rolling I suppose!

FYI - Internet Explorer and Bell Customers

So we've stumbled on a slight glitch in the system, because we have to change servers on Saturday, that required us to change the DNS setting. As such, Bell does not update their DNS tables until Mondays, and so if you have Bell Sympatico your probably experiencing some issues. This might be happening to a lot of different ISP's, so please be patient. Also we are currently aware that Internet Explorer and WiiCade do NOT play nice, thats because we needed to develop the site for Opera, and they are two very different rendering engines, as such we are working on a fix.

Hello, thought I'd make a blog to recount all the events that transpire for WiiCade, because there is a lot the happens behind the scenes. First off I'd like to introduce myself to you guys, as some of you know I am David Stubbs, the graphic designer and creator of WiiCade, John Eysman is our fantastic programmer and Aaron Worrall is our "Flash Liaison" and exclusive flash game designer. We created WiiCade to fill in the gap between home made games and console games, kinda making it easier for the little guy to be recognized. However much of the praise must go towards Nintendo who provided a fantastic platform for us to make this medium. We hope you guys enjoy our site, and any games you wish to submit, for the time being mail them to games@wiicade.com
